The Site:

Home to a 20th Century Statue of the Engineering Icon Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Havelock Square underwent the start of an £850,000 refurbishment scheme at the start of 2016. The Square was once home to the famous Brunel Rooms, which during the 1970’s hosted Rock Legends such as Blondie, Ultravox, The Boomtown Rats and The Jam.

The Challenge:

Concern was expressed about jointing sand erosion and paver de-stabilisation to the newly installed paving, due to the high volumes of pedestrian footfall and mechanical cleaning regimes. The new paving would form part of the busiest entrance to the Brunel Centre, as well as being a primary route into the Town Centre.

The Solution:

Resiblock Ltd was consulted, culminating in the installation of its product Resiblock Resiecco, a single pack, specialist, water based paving sealer which stabilises the jointing sand, preventing its erosion from heavy duty cleaning regimes, whilst providing excellent stain protection to the surface of the paving. Once cured, it remains fully elastomeric thereby accommodating the small elastic deflections incorporated with the pavement design.

The Benefits:

Resiblock Resiecco is a one pack material, it is broadcast over the surface of the paving with simplistic tools and does not require any specialist labour. It will bind the paver jointing sand preventing its erosion from trafficking, natural elements and manmade cleaning regimes.
