Case Study

Project: Guildhall Shopping Centre, Exeter
Guildhall Shopping Centre, Exeter
Client: Aviva
Contractor: ISG Plc
Paver Type: Granite Paving
Area: 2,500m2
Resiblock Product: Resiblock '22' AF
Date: September 2015

The Site:

Located in the centre of Exeter, Guildhall Shopping Centre combines a modern spacious shopping mall, with supermarket and dining options, with traditional architecture. Organised around an outdoor central square, containing the 12th Century St Pancreas Church (standing on what is believed to be the oldest foundations in the city), and boasts the medieval Guildhall and Higher Market Hall (designed by John Dymond, architect of Covent Garden). Guildhall Shopping Centre is uniquely placed with a rich history and represents the very heart of British Exeter.

The Challenge:

Concern was expressed with regard to jointing sand erosion and paver de-stabilisation from the high volumes of pedestrian traffic, cleaning regimes (ranging from pressure washing to vacuum sweeping) and environmental elements and also staining to the paving from food and chewing gum.

The Solution:

Resiblock ‘22’ A.F. (Architectural Finish) was selected from the Resiblock range of products, suitable for all types of natural stone, for its ability to bind jointing sand so that it remains in place under the most arduous of conditions (including high velocity water flows, maintenance pressure washing, environmental elements and trafficking) and also allows the paver pavement to retain its normal flexural qualities. Resiblock ‘22’ A.F. acts as an anti-detritus coating (which provides economic removal of chewing gum, food and beverage stains etc) and and has a high order of resistance to Ultra Violet light.

The Benefits:

• Single component – fast cure, ensures rapid re-use of the facility
• Resists oil and diesel stains
• Significantly reduces staining by food and drink
• Virtually eliminates residual staining by chewing gum oils
• Inhibits the growth of weeds and grass in joints
• Maintains performance life of pavement.
