Over recent years, South Tyneside Council has been carrying out regeneration works along Ocean Road in South Shields, which is well known for its array of restaurants, guest houses and B&B’s. Ocean Road is one of the Borough’s most important cultural assets and attracts millions of visitors every year. It also acts as a key link between South Shields Town Centre and the stunning seafront. The regeneration project has aimed to make the street more pedestrian friendly and inviting for residents and visitors, in turn, helping to draw more seafront visitors to the town centre and to create better links between both areas.
Concern was expressed about staining and weed/grass growth from within the sand filled joints, jointing sand erosion and paver de-stabilisation caused by the high volumes of pedestrian traffic, environmental elements and cleaning regimes (ranging from pressure washing to vacuum sweeping) to the newly installed, aesthetically pleasing paver pavements.
Resiblock 22 A.F. was selected from the Resiblock range of products for its ability to bind jointing sand so that it remains in place under the most arduous of conditions (including high velocity water flows and maintenance pressure washing), to act as an anti-detritus coating (which provides economic removal of chewing gum, food and beverage stains etc) and allows the paver pavement to retain its normal flexural qualities. It also has a high order of resistance to Ultra Violet light
• Single component – fast cure, ensures rapid re-use of the facility
• Resists oil and diesel stains
• Significantly reduces staining by food and drink
• Virtually eliminates residual staining by chewing gum oils
• Inhibits the growth of weeds and grass in joints
• Maintains performance life of pavement.
